2026 marks the 400th anniversary of the birth of Christina, Queen of Sweden.
To celebrate this milestone of Swedish history, the Drottningholm Theatre presents two public lectures by musician and musicologist Andrés Locatelli devoted to Italian Baroque music and opera. A controversial and captivating figure in 17th-century European culture, Queen Christina left a profound mark on the artistic and musical life of her time.
Getting ready for summer! In connection with this season’s sumptuous production of L’Incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi, the second lecture will focus on this landmark work in the history of opera and on the life and legacy of its creator.
These accessible talks invite a broad audience to discover the sound world of the Italian Seicento and to explore the links between political power and musical art. The lectures, in English, will be accompanied by live music, performed by vocal soloists and leading members of the Drottningholm Orchestra. Book your tickets!
