This in depth conversation with producer, actor and director, Juozapas Mikulėnas takes the audience into an energetic career, where collaboration is key. Especially with your film's subjects. Explore the pitfalls and joys of working with hig profile, high energy athletes and understand the filmmaking process in a new way.
Juozapas Mikulėnas ia 29 year old Lithuanian filmmaker and founder of the media production agency FOCUS DIVISIONS. They unite more than ten creative specialists producing documentaries, music videos, commercials, events, and social media campaigns. Its subdivision, FAST FOCUS — known as the “automotive media maniacs” — has become well known across Europe among race car drivers for its dynamic and cinematic motorsport storytelling.
Juozapas discovered his passion for cameras and storytelling at just fifteen years old. Forgoing traditional film schools, he chose to “learn by doing,” and has been leading creative projects for more than a decade. His work has taken him across Europe, the Emirates, and even the bright lights of Las Vegas — yet he always returns to his true passion: blending cinematic storytelling with the speed and risk of motorsport.
He received a scholarship to The Atomic Garden Advertising School, where he was tutored by acclaimed Lithuanian filmmakers Saulius Baradinskas and Jonas Trukanas. He won the Odisėja72 challenge with a music video created in only 72 hours, and developed the TV project The True Fighter, selected in a format incubator and now in further development with Canadian producer Philip Kalin Hajdu.
Juozapas also steps to the other side of the camera, both in professional modelling and acting. This experience deepens his understanding of performance and allows him to guide actors with empathy and insight while directing.
His work is defined by cinematic visuals and intimate human stories, often exploring themes of resilience, passion, and identity. Sandra: The Drift Queen is his latest feature documentary, continuing his pursuit of raw, emotional storytelling where adrenaline meets vulnerability.
