Sunn O))) formed in Los Angeles in March 1998, with core members Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson. For over 20 years, they've challenged musical norms by synthesizing drone, noise, metal, minimalism, and maximalism, while remaining committed to volume, density, and weight.
From their early releases like The Grimmrobe Demos (1999) and ØØ Void (2000), Sunn O))) quickly gained renown for their innovative and heavy sound. They are known for their significant collaborations with artists such as Attila Csihar, Merzbow, Boris, Ulver, and Scott Walker, constantly expanding their sonic palette.
Sunn O)))'s live performances are legendary, characterized by immense sound pressure and immersive experiences in diverse venues worldwide. Their recent albums, Life Metal and Pyroclasts (2019), were recorded with Steve Albini using an all-analog process. Celebrating their 25th anniversary, O'Malley and Anderson toured as a duo and are preparing a new album for 2025, continuing their exploration of physical sound.
