Dance workshops with Daj Ognia
Daj Ognia band is based in Krakow, Poland, and their music is most often defined as 'dark folk' or 'alternative folk'. Their artistic creation is set in "a village that never was". Referring to an old myth of the Baltic Sea freezing over winter, they find inspiration in both Polish and Scandinavian musical traditions. With archaic instruments found in these lands, in their theatrical manner, the band interweaves the melodies of melancholic longing and frenetic trance-like dances. Daj Ognia's original compositions bring back the fiery raves of bygone days.
For this years' Medieval Week on Gotland, they will come from Krakow not only to perform on stage and offstage along the island, but also to teach you some traditional folk dances and songs. During the dance workshop - suitable for dancers of any level of experience - you will learn the basics steps of couple dances, folk choreographies, and of course the Polish specialty - syncopated spinning dance "oberek".
